Prior’s Vocation Message

Dear Friends in Christ Jesus, our Blessed Mother, and Saint Benedict,

We welcome you to the redesigned Vocations website of Mary Mother of the Church Abbey!  We are excited that you have dropped by to check out the latest happenings in our part of the Benedictine world.

The monks of Mary Mother of the Church are devoted to the life of prayer and apostolic work, Ora et Labora, that has served as the charism of Benedictine monasticism since the time of our founder, our Holy Father Saint Benedict, in the first years of the 6th century.  Our 1,500-year tradition of seeking God together as a fraternal community of the Faith provides us the fundamental root both for living in God’s love and for serving as His instruments to proclaim the Gospel to a world in greatest need of experiencing our Lord.  Through our prayer and work, we desire to grow in holiness, witnessing ever to God’s Real Eucharistic Presence in the New Evangelization of our Catholic Faith, and demonstrating to our world that faith, hope, and love in action possible only through, with, and in Jesus Christ our Lord.

We invite you to explore the vocational articles and links, as well as summaries of our ministries found on this  Abbey website.  As you pray about God’s calling for your life, which is the true meaning of vocation (from the Latin word voco, vocare – to call), we desire to join you in seeking His Divine Will for you and your life.  If you discern prayerfully that you might have a calling to the prayer and work of our monastic community, we invite you to contact our Vocations Director, Br. John Mary Lugemwa, O.S.B., to discuss your possible vocation to our community and concurrrently to fill out and submit to him the statistical form found on this vocations website.  On behalf of our monastic community, I assure you of our continued prayers for you and your ultimate vocation to be – and to serve as – a fellow servant of our Lord and His Love and Truth.

We also invite you to join our Facebook group called RichmondMonks, so that you might receive the latest information on discernment weekends, retreats, and other special events related to our vocations program and Abbey.

May God bless you superabundantly with His Love and Peace as you seek your vocation in Him +
